Finance in the Age of AI: Preparing MBA Students for Viksit Bharat 2047

Finance is no longer just about balance sheets, budgets and spreadsheets. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital technology are changing how businesses manage money, assess risk, serve customers and make financial decisions. For MBA students, this transformation creates an important question:

Are we preparing ourselves for the finance jobs of tomorrow?

Today, financial management is becoming increasingly data-driven. AI can analyse large volumes of financial information, identify patterns, support forecasting and improve decision-making. In banking, AI is being explored for areas such as lending, fraud detection, customer service and risk management. The Reserve Bank of India has recently highlighted the transformative potential of AI in lending, while also stressing the importance of responsible adoption and governance.

India's digital financial ecosystem provides a strong foundation for this transformation. UPI, digital banking and other Digital Public Infrastructure initiatives have made financial services faster and more accessible. Recent government initiatives also highlight the role of AI and digital infrastructure in expanding financial inclusion.

The future of finance will not be about choosing between humans and AI; it will be about humans who know how to use AI intelligently and responsibly.

For MBA students, this means that core finance knowledge alone is no longer enough. Future managers need to understand AI, analytics, cybersecurity, FinTech and digital business models along with traditional concepts such as investment management and risk analysis. Knowledge of the securities market and portfolio management can also help students understand how technology is influencing investment decisions.

The opportunities extend beyond finance professionals. An entrepreneur can use AI and FinTech to develop solutions in lending, insurance, agriculture and other sectors. In agri business management, for example, technology can support better financial access, market information and data-based decision-making.

MBA students should also learn strategic tools such as PESTLE analysis to understand how political, economic, social, technological, legal and environmental factors influence business decisions. At the same time, Gen Z professionals need to focus on developing human skills such as critical thinking, communication, ethics and leadership alongside digital capabilities.

The journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047 will require professionals who can combine financial knowledge with technological awareness and responsible innovation. The future of finance will not be about choosing between humans and AI; it will be about humans who know how to use AI intelligently and responsibly.
